Configuring the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)

Configuring a bundle

A bundle definition constitutes the top level that is used to set up an incoming or an outgoing PPP link.

NOTE: You must define the physical link devices that are available for use before you can define a bundle. See ``Configuring a link device''.

To add or modify a bundle:

  1. In the PPP Manager, select View -> Bundles to view the currently defined bundles.

  2. To define a new bundle, select Edit -> Add.

To change an existing bundle definition, select it from those listed, and then select Edit -> Modify.

  3. Enter the following general information about the bundle:

    Bundle name
A name that will be associated with the bundle. This name is also used as the argument to pppattach(1M) to bring up outgoing links manually.

    Enabled
Select Yes to enable the bundle. Select No if you want to prevent the bundle being used but you want to preserve its configuration.

    Type
Select how the bundle is going to be used:

    Outgoing
The bundle is to be used for outgoing connections only.

    Incoming
The bundle is to be used for incoming connections only.

    Bi-directional
The bundle is to be used for both incoming and outgoing connections. This configuration is required to allow callback of incoming users.

NOTE: You may only specify one remote system for outgoing connections in a bundle.

If you want a modem to answer incoming calls, you must configure it to do so using the Modem Manager.

  4. Click the button corresponding to the options that you want to define or change for the bundle:

There are also buttons for advanced options which allow you to make detailed changes to the configuration if you have expert knowledge of PPP:

  5. Click on OK when you have finished configuring the bundle.

NOTE: You will be asked to supply missing information that you have not already entered using the configuration buttons.

To remove a bundle definition:

  1. In the PPP Manager, select View -> Bundles to view the currently defined bundles.

  2. To delete a bundle definition, select it from those listed, and then select Edit -> Delete.

  3. Click on OK when asked to confirm that you want to delete the bundle.
