Configuring the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP)

Bandwidth on demand options

The following options define how a bundle will handle changes in network traffic over multilink PPP connections:

Bandwidth managed by
Which end of the link should manage bandwidth on demand:

caller
The initiator of the multilink connection should make decisions about bandwidth allocation.

local
Only the local host should make decisions about bandwidth allocation.

peer
Allow the remote host to make decisions about bandwidth allocation.

both
Allow either end to make decisions about bandwidth allocation.

This value is only used if a bandwidth allocation protocol (such as BAP controlled by BACP) is available and has been negotiated.

Additional bandwidth link created by
Which end of the link should make additional calls when extra bandwidth (more links in the bundle) is required:

caller
Only the initiator of the bundle should make additional calls.

peer
The remote host is expected to make additional calls. The local host will not.

both
Either end of the link may make additional calls.

This value is only used if a bandwidth allocation protocol (such as BAP controlled by BACP) is available and has been negotiated.

Minimum period between bandwidth changes
The minimum time period that must expire before a link can be added to or dropped from a multilink bundle from the time that a link was last dropped from or added to that bundle.

Load when links are added
The load percentage above which links should be added to a multilink bundle.

Sample period for link additions
The time in seconds over which the average loading value for adding links to a multilink bundle is calculated.

Load when links are removed
The load percentage below which links should be removed from a multilink bundle.

Sample period for link removals
The time in seconds over which the average loading value for removing links from a multilink bundle is calculated.

NOTE: You can use ppplinkadd(1M) and ppplinkdrop(1M) to add or remove links from a multilink bundle manually.
