Act as router?

A machine that has interfaces (adapters or serial lines) to more than one network may operate as a router (or gateway) by forwarding packets from one network to another.

When you configure a second interface on a system, you can turn it into a router or you can choose to leave it in the default non-gateway mode. If you do not make your machine into a router, it will send and receive packets on each of its interfaces that is connected to a network, but it will not forward packets that it receives on one interface to be retransmitted on another interface.

Pseudo ttys

The number of pseudo terminals controls the number of simultaneous telnet, rlogin and rsh sessions that are possible on a system. The default number of pseudo terminals is 32; the maximum number that you can configure is 1024.

Frame format

The choices for any network adapter are either IEEE 802.n framing or Ethernet II framing. If your network adapter is Token Ring then the frame format must be IEEE 802.n; otherwise the default frame format may depend on the capabilities of the network adapter. If you reconfigure a network adapter, the setting defaults to the previously configured value.

The frame format selected should match that in general use on your local network.

Administrator for this system

This optional item lists the name of the network administrator. The information is used by those who need to know who to contact in case of SNMP problems and is stored in /etc/netmgt/snmpd.conf.

Location of this system

This optional item lists the system location. The information is used by those who need to know who to contact in case of SNMP network problems and is stored in /etc/netmgt/snmpd.conf.
