Starting and stopping the system

Initiating an interactive boot session

The operating system is booted automatically when you turn on your computer or reboot your system. However, you can also interrupt the boot sequence and initiate an interactive session. This procedure is useful when you want to redefine system keywords (parameters), such as the amount of available physical memory.

For more information about keywords you can change interactively, and about how the boot program works read the boot(1M) and boot(4) manual pages.
