Introduction to the desktop management interface

The role of management applications

Management applications present information about components. A management application may provide a diagnostic environment in which to exercise the instrumentation of managed components. Another kind of management application focuses on managing the data generated by a particular set of components. A management application may present a graphical view of components, monitor the runtime behavior of selected components, or allow the user to perform management operations such as component installation, removal, maintenance and upgrades.
