Configuring a USB Printer for System V LP

Configuring a USB Printer for System V LP

  1. Open the SCOadmin Printer Setup Manager, either from the Desktop or by entering scoadmin printer at the command line.

  2. Select Printer > Add Local Printer from the Printer Setup command menu.

  3. Enter a Name for the printer.

  4. Choose a manufacturer and model from the selection list.

  5. Leave the Connection Type as Parallel.

  6. Select the Other for Connection Port, and type the name of the USB device into the text box that appears. For USB printers, we recommend you use a device name of the form /dev/usb_prnt#. See Printing: USB Support for USB device naming conventions.

  7. Select OK.

The Printer Setup Manager should now display the name, manufacturer, and model of the printer you added.

To test the new printer, try the following command to print the lpadmin manual page:

man lpadmin | lp -d printername
where printername is the name of the new printer.
