Administering the ttymon port monitor

Examining log files

There are two log files that can be examined for clues to problems related to ttymon port monitors or ports monitored by ttymon port monitors. The SAC daemon records aberrant port monitor behavior in /var/saf/_log; and each ttymon port monitor has its own log file, /var/saf/pmtag/log, where it records messages it receives from the SAC daemon, services it starts, and so on.

Periodically, you should clear or truncate log files. If you want cron to do the cleanup for you, add the appropriate commands to the file /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root.

To examine the most recent entries in a log file, use the tail command. The command tail -25 /var/saf/_log lists the most recent 25 entries in _log.
