You can't assign a system to a specific direct line

Using the Desktop, you can't specify that a system use a specific direct line. What will happen is this: if you select Direct using the Dialup Systems Manager, your connection request will go out on the first available direct line, which may not be where the system you want resides. The same goes for DATAKIT lines.

To assign a system to a specific direct line, you need to set up a new ``Class'' in the Devices(4bnu) file for each new device you have. Then refer to that class in the Systems(4bnu) file.

For example, assume you entered two direct lines and two systems from the Dialup Setup window. Then, you would do the following

1. For the second line, edit /etc/uucp/Devices manually, changing the ``Class'' field value Direct to say Direct1.

2. For the second system, edit /etc/uucp/Systems manually, changing the ``Class'' field value Direct to say Direct1.
