Adding a new printer type

Create conversion filter(s)

If required, create filter(s) to convert the content type of a file to a type that matches the printer's input context-type:

  1. Create the filter script file in a sub-directory under the /etc/lp tree. This file contains the required conversions and printer feature controls that are required for the new printer; there may be none. See the example filterit file.

    Filters can be created in any programming language, including shell scripts. The print service is notified of new supported filters with the lpfilter utility.

  2. Create a filter definition file. See the example filterit.def file.

  3. Use the lpfilter command to add the filter definition to the lp system:
       <login as root>
       lpfilter -f psduplex -F filterit.def
       lpfilter -f psduplex -l # to display its added definition
