Specifying the locale

Setting the system locale

The system default locale is originally configured during installation. To change the system default locale, log in as root and start the International Settings Manager. Select ``Locale'' in the main screen and select Settings -> Modify , or simply double-click on ``Locale''.

This setting determines the default locale for all programs and users on the system. Click on the ``Locale'' to select from a list. Your locale selection automatically sets the keyboard and codeset, but you can override these defaults by clicking on the ``Keyboard'' or ``Codeset'' to choose from a list.

In addition to establishing a system-wide locale, you can override the system defaults for each user.
