Introduction to using the system

Opening a terminal window

There are several ways in which you can open a terminal window on the desktop. These include:

You may need to press <Enter> to confirm the terminal type.

You can also switch to a console window and log in again, if this is appropriate for the task you want to do. See ``Running programs simultaneously with multiscreen displays'' (under System Management, Administering SCO Systems) for details.

You should see a ``$'' or ``%'' symbol with the cursor positioned next to it. This is the command prompt: you are now ready to start entering commands.

NOTE: Your system administrator may have set up a different prompt for you. For example, the prompt may include your login, the name of your workstation, the date and time, or the current directory path.

All commands are described in the manual pages provided in the online documentation. The online help topics tell you how to perform the main tasks involved in using UnixWare.
