Configuring Netscape Navigator to play sound files
By default, Navigator will prompt you to download a sound file
when you click on it. However, you can configure Navigator to
play sound samples directly from the browser:
-
Make sure that mixer is set to the desired levels.
 -
In the Options menu, select General Preferences,
then Helpers.
 -
Select the type of audio file you would like to play, then click
on Edit.
 -
Click on Application, then enter the name of the
preferred utility:
-
/usr/bin/scosound if you want the graphical interface
to appear; this will allow you to start and stop playback
 -
/usr/bin/vplay if you do not want a graphical interface
to appear; if not, you must use vplay on the command line
to control playback

 -
Confirm your selections to exit the Options menu.
You can repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each audio file type.
